Street Furniture (2015)

Inspired by majestically coloured polystyrene tubing protecting pedestrians from scaffolding poles on pavements, as spotted in Caernarfon and Finsbury Park.

Lyrical figuration...

is what I would like to call this way of painting, if the phrase didn't sound so obscure. Inspired by contemporary painters such as Danny Markey, and early-ish Rothko works such as Entrance to subway (1938), and Richard Diebenkorn's 1970s paintings on cigar box lids.
