Rosemary Gardens

These paintings were made in the studio from drawings I did at my friends’ flat at the top of a London tower block, Rosemary Gardens. I was inspired by a 2015 exhibition of Richard Diebenkorn’s landscape paintings at the Royal Academy which included some small paintings on cigar boxes. I love colourfield painting. I love urban landscapes and the geometry of the municipal sports ground.

The two framed paintings have been shown in a Cupola Gallery off-site exhibition in Sheffield. They are made on greyboard, and are painted in gouache and watercolour. The third painting is oil on canvas, wrapped around board, and can hang as is. It is a sculptural, chunky kind of painting.

framed works are both 14 x 11cm, frame size is 33 x 33 cm

the oil painting is 19 x 16cm.

Zoe (Sunburn)

oil on board, 2013. Framed dimensions 33 x 33cm (the painting is 20 x 15cm). This is a calm painting to live alongside.

Pots

Oil on board. These can be sent out singly or as a gang. They are mostly around 16 x 16cm, max height is 20cm.

Top trump cards for classical pottery. I display these as painted objects, they do not have fixings on the back to attach to a wall but they could easily be given some (I would recommend sticky pads, but blue tack would also work as they are quite light).

Allotments

Two oil paintings made on an allotment site in Sheffield in 2012. Judge’s Prize at the Harley Open Exhibition in Worksop in 2013.

The first is called ‘First’ as it was the first in the series, the second is called ‘Bottles’.

Framed dimensions 42 x 56cm (First) and 42 x 49cm (Bottles).

Pears

I love this pencil drawing of pears from 2014. It’s 20 x 28cm and was made during a time I was looking at a lot of work by Euan Uglow. It was one of a pe(a)ir, its partner sold and is on display in a private collection in London.

Two Feathers

Pen and ink, and gouache on Amazon packing paper. This work is not available framed, despite the installation view.

It measures 75 x 52cm.

Bramall Lane, Sheffield

Oil on board, 21 x 30cm.

Blades fans note the corrugated pink roof of Bramall Lane stadium behind the trees. There’s a very fancy block of brick-built student flats on this site now. When I painted this in 2013 it was being used as a carpark. The developers had to build around the trees and a beautiful old stone wall was kept intact too.

Tell me more about pozzolana

Assemblages of oil on paper, with perspex, screws and plywood panel. I lived in Rome for a bit.

Made in Sheffield in 2016; 18 x 27cm.
